Root one of ten players to sign new Yorkshire contract

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid and wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd have also committed to Headingley for two more years

England batsman Joe Root is one of 10 players to sign new contracts with county champions Yorkshire.

Root, 23 and currently on tour with England in Sri Lanka, has agreed a two-year extension until 2016.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid and wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd have also committed to Headingley for two more years.

Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon said: “We have had some success over the last few years. But from our point of view, it is only the start, and we want to be successful over a period of time.

“To get the core of the squad signed up for at least the next 12 months is very important.”

Among others to have agreed new deals are seamer Moin Ashraf, for one year – while rising stars Karl Carver, Matthew Fisher and Josh Shaw have all won professional contracts after their England Under-19s exploits.
