Bates had previously played at Hampshire until he was released from the Ageas Bowl.

Wicketkeeper Michael Bates is to remain at Taunton until the end of the 2015 season, following a contract extension with Somerset.

The 24-year old had originally signed for a month having been released by Hampshire at the end of the campaign, but has impressed with both bat and gloves to earn himself an extended deal.

Somerset Director of Cricket Matt Maynard said: “ Michael has done really well for us in his first month and we have decided to extend his stay for the rest of this season.”
