Warwickshire complete Ronchi and Gooch double-scoop

Warwickshire and the Birmingham Bears have strengthened their bid for honours in 2016 by bringing in Antipodean wicket keeper batsman Luke Ronchi for the NatWest T20 Blast and by hiring England legend Graham Gooch as an occasional batting consultant.

Ronchi has joined for all 14 T20 group games and will bring the experience gained from 29 T20 caps for New Zealand, most recently in the ICC World T20 semi-final against England.

Director of coaching Dougie Brown said: “Luke has played in the biggest limited overs competitions in the world and he is widely recognised as one of the finest wicket-keeper batsmen in the game.”

Ronchi added: “Birmingham Bears have been one of the top teams in T20 over the last two years and I’m very excited to join such a great Club that boasts several internationals.”

The Bears have also signed Gooch as a part-time batting consultant.

As well as a stellar international career, Gooch has forged a reputation as a batting coach, not least with England. In the current Bears squad, both Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott will be familiar with Gooch’s coaching skills.
