Pietersen tips Gillespie for England role

Kevin Pietersen believes Yorkshire Head Coach Jason Gillespie would be an ideal candidate for the England role following the sacking of Peter Moores on Saturday.

Speaking after his career-best knock of 326* against Leicestershire at the Kia Oval, KP praised the Australian’s temperament but said he is prepared to work with whoever gets the job should he be successful in winning back his England spot.

Gillespie joined Yorkshire in November 2011 and took them from Division Two of the County Championship to the first division title within three years, following a successful playing career with the Baggy Greens.

“I’ve heard brilliant things about Jason Gillespie,” said Pietersen.

“All the Yorkshire guys I’ve spoken to say that he’s fantastic. He’s a brilliant man manager, he’s very relaxed and he’s not in your face.

“He does the right things. He’s a strict disciplinarian which is what you need to be to be good at your job.

“If you want to take wickets or score runs you have to be a disciplinarian. I’ve done that my whole career. I’ve always practiced as hard as I can practice because I want to be successful on the field.

“I don’t know who is going to get the job, there are a lot of name knocking about but I’m willing to work with whoever gets the job.”

Assistant coach Paul Farbrace will take charge of the national side for the two-Test series against New Zealand, which starts at Lord’s on 21 May.
