SSCC Round up Division Two: Monday 2nd May

Sussex v Leicestershire at Hove

Stumps Day 2: Leicestershire 300-4 (Horton 100, Cosgrove 80) lead Sussex 163 by 137 runs

Leicestershire’s Paul Horton made his first century for the side today, as the Foxes tightened their grip of the first innings at Hove.

Starting the day on 140-2, after the entire first session was lost to bad weather, Horton and captain Mark Cosgrove added 81 runs – and a partnership of 114 – before Horton was caught behind on 100, off the bowling of George Garton.

Cosgrove was the only other wicket for the day, another scalp for Garton, with the side finishing on 300-4.

Worcestershire v Essex at New Road

Essex 335-2 (Cook 130*, Westley 125) v Worcestershire

New Road was once again hampered by poor weather today, being forced to shorten the morning and then losing the whole afternoon session, but it would not hamper Alastair Cook and Tom Westley.

The England captain made his third century for the season and Westley joined him in the runs, as Essex carried on building their first innings total at New Road. Westley, who was lbw to Kiwi Matt Henry for 125, would be the only wicket for the rain-interrupted day, the visitors finishing with 335-2.

With the scalp of Westley, Ravi Bopara came to the crease and built a partnership of 97* with Cook before the day came to an end.

Kent v Glamorgan at Canterbury

Glamorgan 16-1 and 260 trail Kent 488 (Meschede 63, Cooke 45) by 212 runs

Daniel Bell-Drummond, Darren Stevens, Tom Latham and Mitch Claydon banded together against Glamorgan’s inconsistent bowling attack to put Kent in an excellent position at Canterbury. Sam Northeast added 46 and Matt Coles 29 as the hosts made their way to a huge total.

In reply, Stevens reared his head again as he removed danger man Jacque Rudolphfor no run in only the fourth over.

Northants v Derbyshire at Wantage Road

Northants 66-0 (Libby 28*, Duckett 36*) trail Derbyshire 324 (Thakor 83*, Palladino 49) by 258 runs
