Footitt stars as Surrey wrap up victory over Lancashire

Surrey took just 75 minutes to wrap up a ten-wicket victory over Lancashire in Division One at The Oval on day four.

Mark Footitt finished with seven wickets as Lancashire were all out for 230 in their second innings, before Surrey knocked off the 39 they needed in just 9.1 overs.

Resuming 203-8 on day four just ten runs ahead, there was to be no tail order wag for Lancashire. Surrey took just ten minutes to strike. Nathan Buck was caught at second slip off that man Footitt, who brought up his 300th first-class wicket in the process.

The final pair of Kyle Jarvis and Simon Kerrigan couldn’t add much more to Lancashire’s minimal lead. Rather fittingly Footitt finished the job when Jarvis chipped to Stuart Meaker for 14 to end the innings, Kerrigan left 12 not out.

Footitt was the star of the show for Surrey and finished with 7-62 from 20.4 overs, career-best figures. It left Surrey needing just 39 to win and Lancashire moved into T20 mode by opting for spin from both ends, which was to no avail.

Spin twins Arron Lilley and Kerrigan went for 34 in 8.1 overs combined and Dominic Sibley scored a conservative 11 from 23 balls, whilst Rory Burns hit 28 from 32 with four fours.

Surrey chased their required 38 in just under half an hour to record a ten-wicket win. The victory moves them temporarily to third in Division One, after a tough start to their first season back in the top division.
