Lancashire have announced the signing of Australia Test opener Joe Burns for the 2019 Specsavers Championship season.
Burns, who made his Test debut in 2014, will be available for ten matches of Lancashire’s campaign – as the newly-relegated side look for an immediate return to the top flight.
The 29-year-old has 14 Test matches to his name, averaging 36.76, and is no stranger to county cricket having had spells with Leicestershire and, most recently, Middlesex in 2015.
Burns will no doubt hope to push his claims for an Ashes spot with strong performances on English soil and is looking forward to playing for Lancashire.
“Lancashire is a huge county with a fine history in the game and I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to play for the Red Rose next year,” he told the club website.
“It will be a huge honour to play at a world-class stadium like Emirates Old Trafford and I am very much looking forward to joining up with the squad.
“I’m determined to put in some match winning contributions for the side and help Lancashire push for promotion at the first time of asking.”
Lancashire Director of Cricket Paul Allott added:”We’re thrilled to sign Joe as our overseas player for the majority of next year’s County Championship.
“He strengthens our batting line-up and brings a wealth of experience into the side. He will set a fantastic example to some of our younger batsmen in the way he approaches the game, both on and off the field.
“He’s an incredibly ambitious individual, and having spoken to him, I know he shares the same aspirations that Lancashire Cricket have for the upcoming year.”
