Season One: Episode 22 – Leicestershire vs Sussex (Day 2)

Day Two

Aaron Lilley continues batting well but has to survive a strike on the pads from David Wiese, which is turned down because it was travelling too far down the leg side.

Eventually Wiese does get his man. Lilley departs for 42. Leicestershire 254-6.

Then, things get worse. Like the wit in the pub after three then four then five pints, our attack gets blunter and blunter.

Harry Swindells supports Azad who moves to 119 not out at lunch. They are 320-6.

It gets dreadful. At tea, they have motored to quadruple Nelson: 444-6. Swindells is on 95 and Azad 183.

After the refreshments of the tea interval, Swindells makes his century and progresses to Nelson himself. Wiese finally gets one to move off the seam and Finch takes the catch. 466-7 is not that consoling at this point.

Ben Cotton comes in and continues to support Azad. Leicestershire declare on 498-7.

Sussex’s First Innings

We end Day Two 75-0, Phillip Salt and Luke Wells negotiating the bowling with only a few false strokes.

It’s a start, but already we’re a long way from winning this – that looks unlikely to the point of impossible at this point.
