Season One: Episode Nineteen – Sussex vs Gloucestershire T20

Season One: Episode Nineteen – Sussex vs Gloucestershire T20

Right, so this tournament is going on forever. We. Are. Not. Doing. Well.

This proves two things to me: I still hate T20 and that I’m going to have a lot of work to do to rescue our season after destroying the confidence of our entire squad.

Selection:

More news – Travis Head and George Munsey have been selected for Australia and Scotland respectively. So, there are even more gaps in my squad.

Shehan Jayasuriya comes back in.

We lose the toss – literally the only aspect of the season in which we are consistent – and are put in to bat.

Sussex’s Innings

Phillip Salt has an over to forget, in which he plays and misses, exchanges singles with Laurie Evans and then wafts one to Gareth Roderick in the gully off the bowling of Andrew Tye. 2-1.

Next over, Evans decides he too wants an early night and chips a catch back to the gleeful hands of Ryan Higgins. 2-2. We may be done here by 19:00 at this rate.

International superstar Luke Wright decides that Roderick needs more catching practice, and Higgins now has two. 7-3.

Ravi Bopara and Jayasuriya try to mount a comeback. Again. Just like last time.

Except the new “let Ravi be Ravi” policy only succeeds in seeing him walk back to the pavilion for 2, after being caught leg before wicket by Qais Ahmed. 16-4.

At this rate, we’ll be lucky to get through the twenty overs.

Delray Rawlins and Jayasuriya go along ok, but Ahmad manages to get the returnee trapped in front for 17. 33-5.

Rawlins next decides he wants in on the party – if by party he means having his contract cancelled. Ahmad has himself another. 44-6.

Literally the best thing we can say about this game is that we made it past 19:00.

David Wiese and Jonty Jenner do actually make a decent fist of comeback, taking us to 81.

However, West Indian international Jerome Taylor cleans Wiese up, tearing out his off peg. 81-7.

As we reach the sixteenth over, Chris Jordan lasts three balls before snicking one to James Bracey.

Incidentally, Australian international Tye has helped himself to 2 for 3 in this game. 82-8.

It feels a little like we’ve forgotten what sport we’re playing, and that we’re trying to keep the score to under a 100.

In the end, we fail to do even that as well. We end on exactly 100 for 8.

This is going to be short.

Gloucestershire’s innings

I chuck Wiese the cherry and he has a nice shout for lbw first ball turned down at Bracey. He responds by bracing himself and taking 7 off the over.

Next over, Bracey smashes Mitchell Claydon for 16. Gloucestershire have raced to 23-0 off two, and the run rate is now 4.3

I move the fields very defensive to try and dry the runs up. I sling the cherry to Jordan as well.

Second ball, Rawlins drops a sitter off his own bowling, but third ball Greg Willows is sent packing by the umpire for 5. 48-1.

Bopara comes on. I don’t really want to talk about it.

Basically, it takes them 8 overs to chase us down.

This was a bad toss to lose.

Or we’re crap.

Whatever.

The only bright side is that our next game is against midlands (see Ed! I learn!) outfit Derbyshire in the good old county championship.

Thank heavens!
